Is there a manual tranny for the gtp? Is it better than the auto if there is one. Just curious

Swapping from an automatic to a manual in any car is quite a chore, as a lot of fabrication needs to go into it (adding the clutch peddle, cutting for the shifter, etc). There is no direct drop-in manual transmission for the Grand Prix's or GTP's. It can be done, yes, and I believe Brian Teel has been working on one for a while. The L67 powered Fiero's utilize their 5-speed manual transmissions since they bolt right into the L67 but that's also a RWD application, of which can't be converted to a FWD application.

Basically, if you have the funds, you could turn your GTP in a RWD 6-speed monster. For the people that aren't Bill Gates, though, we have to rely on what the community and vendors create with trial and error.

Spend the money on getting a beefed up tranny and you'll see a nicely built auto can outperform a manual on the strip any day of the week.

tranny

i'm not lookin to build a ten second car. Not right now anyway. Is there a tranny that i can buy, or just a few components that should be added to make it a mostly high 12 second reliable tranny?

For those that may be turned off by the price, keep in mind that a built auto tranny for our cars runs anywhere between $3,000 to $4,000+. When you consider that you're upgrading to a 6-speed, that isn't too bad.:8
Here we go!!! My car killed 3 tranies so far (well 2 excluding the original 120K stock). So if somebody buys it  can rest asured s/he can find better trany for 4 more K.
