Changing Supercharger Oil

Hi,

I'm very new to the L67 after recently purchasing a 1997 Park Avenue Ultra with the series II supercharged engine. I would like to change the oil in the supercharger as preventative maintenance and also because I plan on making some mods in the future. I have located the oil screw on the snout of the supercharger, but I don't know if there is a special way to drain the oil without removing the whole supercharger. Also are there any signs of when the SC oil needs to be changed? Lastly, how can I check the oil level in the supercharger...I know where screw is, but I don't know the level it should be at.

Please Help I'm such a newbie.

I use a big syringe with a small piece of plastic hose on the end that reaches the bottom of the snout. You do not want to take the snout or the supercharger off to do this. Most that mod probably change the oil once a year maybe but it's supposed to be able to last quite a while. If I recall, the oil level should be up near the opening of the screw. Oh, and try not to get any on you. It's not the greatest smelling stuff.

I use a "softsoap" type pump and pump it out into a container

When you smell it and it makes you puke... OR once a year, whichever comes first.

It should come up to the threads for the plug where you fill it.

GM does not have a recommended change interval for the S/C oil. I personnally think annually is too often, as the oil isn't subjected to any outside influences and won't get any contamination in it.

Annually may be a little too often for some people on a normal 3.8" pulley "stock" setup. If your spinning it a lot faster/hotter with a smaller pulley, yearly is not a bad idea. But, it's ultimately up to the owner and the level of preventative maintenance they are accustomed to.

I change mine twice a year. It does not cost much & I figure it is much better to change it more often than necessary than to have to replace the supercharger. Intense has a great price on the oil & it is really easy to change.

Is it true you can use motor oil for supercharger with no ill effects?

You know, the insides of a supercharger spinning several times faster than the engine is not the place I'd like to start cutting costs.
