So I have a 2000 Bonneville ssei that needs a transmission and I cannot determine which of allegedly 3 types fitment options.. I found numbers but I'm supposed to locate a series of letters that involve CHB,FHB,or another model that doesn't come to mind..But wherever these abbreviations are I cant find them..Could use some insight anyone..Please and thanks..!!

That is a very good question. I think if you look at the in side the trunk lid or on the spare tire cover, you can see a decal/card that would show "options". Once you see that there may be a code for the trans options. Get back if you don't find this. On another note, you could always talk to a local transmission shop and ask them about this. Hope this helps, Jake (mr goodwrench)

I just did a little research and found the 4T65E-HD is used in a 2000 SSEI. This is the one I see designated for your car. Again, you can always talk to a local trans shop to confirm this info......I found this on line. Jake....mr goodwrench

All supercharged 3800's got the 4T65E-HD w/ 258mm torque converter (RPO Code: MN7), which most everyone here is aware. The code he's asking about is which exact version of that transmission does his car specify on the ID tag of the transmission (located on rear passenger side where the right axle shaft exits).

2000-2005 Bonnevilles (G-body) should have 9CMB model transmission. The earlier L67 Bonneville (H-body) apparently comes with either 2CHB, 4CHB, or 9FDB transmission model. Confirm your own, if you want, and see below to feel less restricted.

For my example, I have this beat-up tag on a spare transmission swapped into my '98 GTP before, which shows it's from a (#13 = "2") 2002 year (#12 = "XAB") L67 W-body HD 2.93 ratio... actually from an '02 Regal GS.

You can directly swap any 1998-2002 HD 2.93 transmission (only CompG GTP's with TapShift 3.29 had 4CBB, and all 2003+ 4T65e's have slightly different electronics). There is, however, a change mid-2000 in the cooler line fittings, along with an improved valve body design, is all. You can convert the fittings for under $10.
