Hi,

I am thinking of buying a car with a NA Series 3 engine as a daily driver. Have previously owned several Series 2 3800's over the years, but wanted to know if there are any quirks to the engine. I like the intake manifold not being plastic. Were plastic coolant tubings changed between Series 2 and 3?

Previously owned 1998 Olds Intrigue, 1996 Oldsmobile 88, 1998 Pontiac Grand Prix

The main difference I've felt has been the throttle body, but it was programmed well enough that the electronic one isn't too bad, especially if you're coming straight from a stock Series 2 with the slow-ramping blade. An N/A one would be a great buy, and can probably take great care of you as you take care of it.

The aluminum coolant elbows came along as replacements after 3800's were out of production. Dorman introduced them in 2012, I believe, and 1-2 companies followed suit in recent years.
