Street Car Shootout - Bham, AL - NEW PB!!

Well....I think we had a good showing today at Steele for "King of the Street" which was put on by Bhamracing.com and Speed South. I won the FWD Slicks class and got a nice new Plaque - first time entering an event...first time winning an event.

I left Florida this morning around 530. Arrived in Steele around 10am. It rained the whole way up, and the weather was supposed to be 70ish with low humidity...wound up being 80's with high humidity.

David (DMoore) and Shawn (SPD98) were already onsite and had a place setup for us. They are 2 of the best "Team" & "Pit Crew" members a guy could have. It was a huge help to have them there. Also, Dave went out of his way to pick up a few things for me on the way to the track.

I entered the FWD Slicks class. There were 2 other entries....Keep in mind this was supposed to be a "Street Car" race. Well the first one was a full blown race car with the kind of stickers that definitely make some one go fast. The other was a trailered in Civic sprayin a hundred shot.

Never saw the first one run. Ran the Civic 3 times. Beat him every time. The first time he sprayed 60 on me, and never showed up. The 2nd he sprayed 100 on me...pulled to within a car length. Only reason I beat him was because of hole shot. He ran a 12.73 to my 12.79. I had a better trap though as well. The FWD DR class had a lot of entries...the winner ran a 13.25(??)...kinda wish I was in that class...but then again I was really there to work on 60's and work on the car.

We had some troubles at first. Couldn't add any timing, as the weather was 80 w/ high humidity. Was seeing KR through the 3rd gear pull. Took us 3 passes to get that worked out. Finally started getting into a groove and getting better air. I also broke my rut of 2.XX 60' times, thanks to the QTP's.

Runs as follows:
1 .639 1.864 5.446 8.387 87.02 13.078 106.58
2. .836 1.967 8.374 82.91 12.956 109.62
3. .784 1.826 5.319 8.191 88.15 12.803 109.11
4. .637 1.817 5.322 8.213 83.74 12.799 108.99
5. .803 1.838 5.334 8.217 83.62 12.797 109.21
6. 1.049 1.794 5.271 8.137 84.21 12.694 111.33 New PB

Had one more run after the 6th, but basically fell on my face on it. Kinda irritated me, because the car was cold, air temp had dropped probably by 10deg, and the humidity was gone. I just go too agressive on the launch and smoked the 60'. Oh well.

Car had Interior - rear seat, full exhaust, 1/4 tank of gas, 2.8 pulley, 18deg of timing, and the cool HP tuners in the passenger seat :)

So I have now been to the track 7 times for a total of 29 passes (yes I have all the time slips) I have run the new setup 4 times for a total of 18 passes (not including 3 by my wife). The car weighed in tonite at 3725 with me in it. I think I am getting better. I definitely like being on slicks better than DR's. I'm not going to say that the times are due to anything other than inexperience on my part. I need to keep practicing the 60's. That is the key. I also need to figure out what to do on the back end of the track. Look at the 1/8th times/MPH's vs 1/4's. Inconsistent to say the least.

Anyway, was a great time. We are thinking of going to Orlando Fun Day on Sun Nov 7th. Anyone up for a trip??

Thanks Scott...Yeah, Seems as though everytime I run her, I get around a tenth or so out of it. Now that I am on Slicks...Hopefully I get some practice on the short times. The backend will take care of itself then :)

You guys had an awesome showing this week....CONGRATS!!!!

Yeah Chris and Chris...the 60's are definitely what I am workin on right now. We were playing with tire pressure and RPM's all day.

There were a lot of people talking about how bad the hook up was on the track that day, but I don't think I will use that as an excuse. There were plenty of people who were able to hook.

The QTP's definitely broke my rut of 2.xx 60's. Now back down to 1.7/1.8s
