So I have the 2006 base GP which of corse doesn't have the compass or outdoor temp. Thinking about installing a factory GM type like this one. Think it'll work?? How would go about getting power to it?? I just want the outdoor temp really but with a factory look. Thanks.

You can get the power from anywhere that has power with the key on. You won't want it to be hot at all times. I believe the compass is internal so that should work with just power and ground. I assume that the outdoor temp sensor is what's shown with it in the second picture. so you'll need to find a good place for that and wire it up as well. A good go to for low draw key-on power is the radio circuit.

I have to say the last picture gives me the heeby jeebies. The fancy mirror in my grandpa's Olds fell off, and the windshield button wasn't the reason. The pot metal blob that holds the mirror to the spring steel button clip broke off and JB weld was not strong enough to keep it in place. I had to get the thing stupid hot and fill it full of solder. I still don't think it was a permanent fix, but I was really just trying to flip the car.

My point is to be careful installing these and pulling one from the yard. If that spring clip breaks off, it's pretty much done.

ive swapped in a 5 button dic into an 04 gt base model. worked fine,

it is a stand alone module that reads its data off the CANbus.

only thing youd have to know is the mileage of the dic as thats the only place the vehicles mileage is stored

So all the sensors are already on the car?? E.g. trans temp, compass, outdoor temp, oil life %, etc??

outside temp sensor is required for the heating/ac system, compass is integral to the 5 button dic, oil life is a sythetic PID generated by the PCM based on engine runtime/conditions, trans temp is integral to the trans/pcm, all this data is requested and transmitted between computers via the databus which on an 06 is a CANbus where an 04/05 is serial and canbuss (transition years)

just get a bigger dic, it'll solve all yer problems

Sweet. I'm gonna try that route. Thanks.
