My first impression of your description is a miss-fire in the ignition system. Probably a bad plug or a bad plug wire. When you are crusing at that 45 speed, the torque converter will go into "lock up" and you can feel these misfires...... Jake

Agreed, that sounds like a misfire scenario. Sometimes, if you open the hood while the engine is running and apply throttle, you can see the wires or coils arcing. I saw this personally once while I was troubleshooting the same behavior. It ended up being a split coil pack in my case.

This is a day late and a dollar short, but I remembered there was a batch of 4t65 transmissions that had a "lock up convertor chattering during slight acceleration or in LOCK UP MODE on an incline. We used to get on a long uphill highway and slowly increase throttle. We found a quick tap on brake pedal unlocks convertor for a few seconds and the chatter is gone til the next lock up cycle. INTERNAL CONVERTOR CLUTCH FAILURE..... Jake

Amazing how faulty converter lock up can imitate performance issues with our engines.
For some time in the past, I had some trouble with chugging , when accelerating around right turns.. I was concerned I was having trouble with fuel pickup in the tank I was never able to emulate the issue..
Later, the stock converter failed after a trans repair. Had car towed to shop, and a converter with 2700 stall speed installed.
NEVER had the problem since.
Good call on this check out procedure Jake.
