Many thanks to 3800Tech for offering this forum.I'm sure I'll visit often.
I own a '00 GTP w/ 8k miles on local built trans. No problems until 2 weeks ago was racing on I-20 w/shifter in 3rd going 110 @ around4500-5000 rpms when it felt like the trans. was shifted into Neutral. Got the car up to speed a few days later & it did it again . No other problems but warrenty to expire in about 3k miles.Trans problem or computer probem? Thanks,pd.

Perry,

Your symptom is sort of confusing. What gearing do you have? What pcm do you have? Maybe we can help you out.

Trans-4t65e-hd, pcm -gm#9380717. Yestersday,I stopped by the pontiac dealer where I have a friend who is a service coordinater. He went for a test drive w/ me , when I got the car up to 110 in 3rd w/ the selector in 3rd ,it was like I shifted into neutral. He thinks the pcm is programmed to do that. When their trans specialist returns from vacation ,he will ask him. I purchased a gm factory service manual for this car about a year ago.Lately I've been reading a lot but haven't found any thing on this subject. Thanks for your help. perry

i have never heard of a PCM shifting a car into neutral above a certain speed.

What PCM do you have?

factory pcm -gm#9380717. i dont drive this fast often, in the past the car was probably in drive. if nothing else i didnt think it should have shut off until 125mph or whatever the cutoff is. but i was thinking that @ top speed the engine was shut down like how the rev limiter limits rpms instead of this problem w/ the trans. cant remember its been a while since i reach the cars top speed limit.thanks for the help ,perry.

Hi Perry...

When the gear selector is in "3", the speed limiter is reduced to 108ish MPH...

If its in 'D', then its at 126ish MPH....

This is considering you have a STOCK PCM in your GTP, with stock gearing, tire/rim diameters that match the PCM, etc....

Have a beer or two or ten and relax.... ;)
