The Intence PCM advertises a 180 second fan on after shut down. I was wondering what the advantage was in having that feature . After engine shut down the engine isn't getting any hotter, so aren't you just prematurly cooling down external engine parts & accessories ,which all have different rates of exspantion/shinkage since they are all fabricated from different materials, & in reality inviting distortion of these components since they actually act as heat sinks for the engine?

Enen though the engine is stopped, the exhaust and other components will "soak back" heat into the engine. The fans will circulate air in the engine compartment and cool the hot coolant in the radiator.

I think a better solution would be an electric water pump to continue to circulate coolant for a short time after shutdown.
