3800 series II into my g body
looking to put a 3800 into a g-body,
i have a 94 cutlass with a 3800 "doner car", and a 83 cs that wants the 3800.
i was wondering if there's a trans adapter that mates the 38 to a 200 4r?
or maybe a link or somthing, thanks

a camaro 4t60e bolts to a 3800. So does the S10 auto trans (I forget what it is)
As far as adapter plates go, I think any machine shop could make one, I think every one that has been made so far was just a custom deal.

the 4l60 is another name for the 700r4, so your saying that the 3800 has the big bellhousing, old style. or when they named it 4l60 they changed it to the small bellhousing?
i thought the 3800 had a different bellhousing.

Yeah, as I'm aware, the 3800 will bolt up to any Chevy small block transmission and any 60Ί V6 transmission as well. Going the other way, you can bolt up an LS1 to a 4T65E, but it probably would not work.

the 3800 uses the 60* bellhousing. there were only a few cars with the right 700R4 and i don't think that any of them had small block V-8's. You'd have to find an S10 with an engine used in other fwd cars.
Or
You could just take the tranny out of an f-body with a 3800. that one's the 4L60E.
talk to Trannyman. he's done it before and he should know a lot about it.

random it sounds like your incorrect.
"QUOTE"
The 700R4 and the 4L60 are the same trans. GM just changed the nomenclature. Now the 4L60E is a different computer controlled version.
Note that there are TWO different bellhousings used on the 700R4/4L60. There's the standard Chevy pattern and the narrow V6 pattern. All 700R4s/4L60s bolted to SBCs or 4.3L V6s use the Chevy pattern. Those bolted to 2.8L V6s and 3800s used in Camaros use the narrow pattern. The FWD 3800 uses the narrow pattern bellhousing.

Wow, that's too weird. I was just reading on a forum I can't recall right now that someone wanted to put a Series II L67 into a Tahoe. I guess he's going to have a weird surprise with it not being a bolt-on swap. What's the difference in the bolt pattern? Wouldn't an adapter plate then be really easy to make?

i don't think i want to try to fab a adapter, the "centers" have to be right on.
i got some tools and skills, but without patterns???????? i could be off just a little bit and all that work just went up in flames along with the pump and everything els. i will have to find a 4l60 60* degree tranny
