clutch disc size

i was reading and i found out that the f bodies with the 3800 and the manual have a clutch disc that is i believe 9 5/8 disc
with the swap that i am goin to do i cant use the 3800 clutch disc (using the porsche tranny)
so i was looking and the only clutch disc i could find that is close is a 9 inch disc
how much difference will it make if the clutch disc is smaller than the 3800 size
will a smaller disc even wrk
