Last one for this car as it is being demodded...
We took the Impala out to US131 dragway for their final test n tune of the year. Since the car is being demodded, I spent a couple hours pulling the interior out last night. Carpet, door panels, side panels, speakers, etc... all came out. I also put in a race seat in place of the factory seat we've been running.
On the first pass, I got a good burnout, but messed up the launch. It bogged coming off the line, but quickly came to life and ran a new PB.
1.6320 60'
6.4887 1/8 mile
111.70 mph
10.0059 1/4 mile
138.42 mph
At this point, it looked like 9's would be had pretty easy today. All I had to do was launch a little harder. For the 2nd pass, I came off the line with a little more boost and put down a
1.5749 sixty foot. I thought I had it in the bag and then about half way through second gear I lost boost. The same charge tube that came off last time at the track had come loose again. There really was no reason for this to happen twice. We found the issue and fixed it, but it cost a 9 second pass.
After two runs I turned it over to Ryan, which meant we had to put the factory seat back in. He's too tall to sit in the fixed position race seat that has my knees just about hitting the dash. This put us about 40 lbs heavier between driver and seat change.
For Ryans first pass, he got greedy and tried launching too hard and blew the tires off. He ran a mid 10.
Second pass he went 10.06 @ 138 with a 1.59 sixty foot.
For the last pass, he got a great burnout, but the track surface was quickly going away. He finished with a 10.11 at 138.
10.09 on a fully streetable 4 door Impala with less then 20 minutes of track prep and driving too and from the track was more than we really expected from this car. 10.00 with a gutted interior just means that we should have pulled out 5 more lbs.
