My Favorite Pontiac is now the Solstice
I have been working with a gentleman by the name of Lee Howie and his 2008 Solstice with the Turbocharged Ecotec 2.0 Engine. This car is amazing. The cars only modifications are:
2.5" Catback Exhaust
Alky Injection,
Modified air inlet and larger couplers after the turbo and intercooler
24 Pounds of Boost on the stock turbo
Agressive Tuning VIA HP Tuners.
This car has cut SEVERAL 1.6X sixty foots on the stock tires from pontiac with the best last night being a 1.610. The result was a 12.01 at 111mph. I do not know of any other car ever produce that will sixy foot like this given the stock suspension and tires. Hell an AWD evo will not even do that.
The car going back to the track with another pound of boost and the owners 93 pound girlfriend who has gone 12.20's in car in the summer heat. I imagine we will see the first soltice run 11's tonight with ony a few hundred dollars in modifications.
Car weighs in by itself at 2950
Foot brake the car to 3000 rpms and you better hold on.
I am Stoked about this little car!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brian,
Aren't the new Cobalt SSs built on the same powertrain?
If so I'm thrilled you're getting experience tuning them, I've got that car calling my name!!!!!!

I am sure that car wouldn't do as well as that if you hadn't worked your magic on it....that is just insane to me though. Hell of a car if it can pull those 60's on all stock set-up...really I am amazed by this post

I have to admit that the designer's/engineer's at Pontiac did have their hearts in the right place with this car. Wikipedia has alot of cool facts about these. For example:
"The GXP version of the solstice debuted at the Los Angeles Auto Show in Jan. 2006. It is powered by a new 2.0L I4 Ecotec engine equiped with a dual-scroll turbocharger. The engine's output is 260hp and 260 ft.lb. This is the highest specific output of any engine in the history of General Motors at 2.1 hp per cubic inch, and it is the first gasoline direct injection engine from an American automaker."
Similar car's would include the Saturn Sky Redline edition and Opel GT. Not sure how close the Daewoo G2X is but I hate to even mention that make.
Hand's down though the Solstice has definately got the looks (and the badge )
What's really cool is the Targa Coupe version which goes on sale for 2009 looks even better and Pontiac's talking about improvements to 300hp and 300ft.lbs for the GXP on their site!
