Another 3800 in the 8's

After running last week in Stanton with major traction issues, we figured out what needed to be added to the suspension to keep the tires straight. We wanted to race Wednesday, but got rained out. Tonight, a few of us decided on the spot to head to Knoll Gas Motorsports Park to test out the changes. At the tech area, the track official pointed out that the harnesses just expired. Doh! But he was going to let us run as long as it wasn't too fast. We really wanted to practice launching and see if the suspension is working. We also had just stuck on some old MT 28" CLs since the dyno ate the good slicks. I figured I'd give them a try on the new setup and once again, they will be coming off right away. They shake pretty bad which I believe to be why they were discontinued a couple years ago.

For the 1st pass, boost was set at 20 psi. The burnout was decent and I launched at about 4-5 psi. The sixty foot was a 1.46 and the 1/8 mile was a 5.89 at 122.6. I let off at half track.

For the 2nd pass, boost was set at 22 psi. I left at 6-7 psi for a 1.411 sixty foot. I ran into bad tire shake about 500-600' feet out and the 594'-660' interval was slower than the previous pass even though it finished the 1/8 at more mph. I decided to run it out and finished with an 8.977 at 154.76mph. This means that we achieved the goal of 8's at 22psi, so we were all pretty excited about this. Unfortunately, the tech inspector didn't share our enthusiasm. He sent us packing after only one full pass. Oh, well, that's how it goes sometimes. We will get some new tires and a harness and get back at it soon.

I need to thank all of the guys at ZZP for spending countless hours helping with this project. We have a lot of talent around the shop and this certainly shows when our drag car runs these kind of numbers right off the bat. The car went down the track so straight and effortlessly that it really didn't feel all that fast compared to the old setup running low 9s. The biggest thanks go to Ryan for huge amount of fabrication work and of course to Zoom for allowing company funds and profits to fly out the window every time this car gets worked on or raced.

Congratulations.... What a start for the 3800's this year!!!

That is not going to be as easy as one thinks. A lot more HP will be needed. I am not saying it wont happen. Just a ways down the road.

Congrats Matt

I think 8.40s will come without too much difficulty, but it could be a long road to 7.90s.
