Dyno Brian does the driver mod on a Z06
This past friday, I was out at private track rental and I must say there were was some room for improvement for lower ET times amongst the RWD Manual Transmission Crowd. I was in the cobra and pretty much beating all LS1 cars with a good reaction time and and making good use of the first 1/8 mile of the track. Here are the highlights.
First off. My best pass of the day was a 13.55 at 102.04 mph.
Story 1.
There were two ZO6's that ran almost everytime together. They would make cars move around in the staging lanes so they could race each other. I had been watching them all day and they had never got out of the 13's. So towards the end of the day they try to line up together and I ask them to race the cobra. One smiles and agrees. The results were as follow.
Corvette Cobra
R/T .093 .056
60' 2.489 2.101
330 6.203 5.814
1/8 9.099 8.855
MPH 86.13 80.42
1000 11.538 11.496
1/4 13.713 13.721
MPH 102.90 101.45
Dyno Brian wins by .0291
Story 2
A customer of mine with an 02 ZO6 comes up to me and asks me if I will drive his car. He had been running 12.90's all day and wanted to see what I could do in the car. I told him that I have never raced my car and had no idea how to launch a vette on radials and that not to be disappointed if I did not do any better. He said go and give it a try. I do not have a copy of time slip so I do not know all the numbers from the slip. This was my one and only pass. I managed a 2.05 on the sixty foot and ran a 12.47 at 115 mph. I go back to the pits and his reply was "#$% Damn you can drive!" I smiled and said I think there is a 12.30 in the car and his reply was I already beat his time bad enough and that he did not need me going any faster. Maybe I can talk him into letting me drive it again sometime.
Here are a couple pics.
This LS1 was either sleeping at the line or making a sandwich.
Small Burnout in the cobra.
Sorry guys. Just had to share my fun with all of you.

Wow, very nice Brian. One would think you have this racing stuff in your veins. How many runs did you get in, and what other cars did you go against? It's a good thing you didn't go against any 3800's to ruin your day o' victory.

Like Steve said.. great job Brian. It is obvious that you can drive. But but..it seems like those extra two cylinders are holding you back.

Nice runs Brian, I think it is more of the fact that you drove a chevy to get those times ...I am not sayin that your cobra would run 12's if it was a chevy, but it would run 12's f it was a chevy

Good driving!!!
Those LS-1 cars should have been killing you.
My dad has an '02 SS with cat-back/air-lid/short throw and I've hit 12.90's in his car
I love it when the better driver comes out on top!!

No spray huh? Good runs though, were you hot lapping the track again? LOL I bet it felt good to finally get back in the car after the trans re-build. Glad to see you out enjoying the "old lady" car.

I agree the LS1 cars should have given me a better run. What I lack in Horsepower I make up in driver skill.
