Just a dream?
Hello,
My name is Matt and I'm 18 years old here in Milpitas, Ca. I've been looking into buying a new car for awhile now. My brother owns a shop called Synergy Motorsports where he does performance enhancements on Corvettes and F bodies. I know my way around an LS1 and LT1.
Seeing as I'm only 18 with steady job that pays $9 an hour, I can't really afford the gas and insurance on a v8 [much less the car itself =P]. So I decided to go with the option of a v6 f body.
I've had my eyes on mostly firebirds, 1996 and up, and I've found some deals. I haven't made my purchase yet but I'm working on it =].
My dream for my 3800 firebird would be to have the economy of the v6 but the power of an LT1 [at least]. Am I totally nuts to want a 300 HP v6? [100 HP gain over stock].
Here's where a slew of questions comes in x]:
If I wanted to start this dream and make it a reality, what performance parts should I begin with? I don't want to run a turbo or a supercharger, as that will be about the price of the car. Is it possible for me to get a 100 HP gain without a turbo? What mods could I run to gain 100 HP? Heads and Cam, with a new valve train, as well as a new intake, ported throttle body, and a more open exhaust?
Point is where do I begin or am I totally nuts. =P
Thank you!
-Matt

I could do the install myself don't get me wrong. My question is just more along the lines of where do I begin with simple then moving into something more complex such as nitrous.

simple bolt-on's such as intake, exhaust, headers, and rockers which are all easy to install will do nothing but intensify the nitrous power. Say you do a 100 shot.... intake, headers, exhaust, and rockers will make you easily over 100 hp over stock. including the spray kit maybe put you in the 2k-2,500 range?? I might be way off b/c i'm a w-body guy not f-body, but i figure everything should be around same prices.

Ok after a bit more roaming around the forum I found other people trying to get NA cars to 300 HP and it isn't happening really without nitrous. I guess I'll have to rip myself and grab a turbo and have my bro do the fabrications =P. That won't be for a looong time though. I gotta get the car first x].
Thanks for your help though! =]

yep, thats a great start, dont forget tuning as others have mentioned, there's power to be had. i know your brothers shop can dial in just about anything....but a word of warning...if they should want to "tune" the v6 (preferably 99+) its nothing like the v8/ls1/6/2 etc. tooooooo many v8 shops claim to be able to dial in ANY car..until they work the 6'er..many many disappointed v6 owners after they have thier set up tuned by one of the "best" v8 shop. happens all the time

your not nuts at all, its doable, just be careful who u listen too...and open your wallet.
Thank you!
