Replacing a '02 Grand Prix engine

Hi,

My sister has a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, the engine is bad (I haven't seen it myself), and it has had overheating problems. I wanted to find out what kind of engines could be put in, and what kind of price range they would be in.

I don't know a lot about cars, so if you could explain your answers, or provide reference links, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!

I myself am in champaign, but my sister and the car are in chicago. How much does it typically cost to swap out an engine? I saw the prices at the link chris gave were $600-$1000

I think there was a leak somewhere in the radiator, but I don't know to be honest... She had to periodically refill the coolant.
