a good challenge
alright i have a 97 bonneville se with the 3.8 series II NA motor. i am circle track racing with it and need some help. The rules dont allow much in the ways of bolt ons and performance parts. I am running a wide open exhaust and cold air intake but that is about it. The only problem is the other cars with the 3.8 series II and even series I are pulling away from me down the stretch. Wondering if anyone has any ways to increase my power a lil and help me get out of the corners a lil faster.
Thanks,
Joe

What about the HV3 High Velocity Intake insert sold by ZZP. It installs inside the upper intake and is very un-detectable. From what I see I couldn't tell if it was OEM or not. Take a look if you want.

as in ZZperformance. Web based company. You might benefit from a lower geared final output drive.

Sorry still have no idea how to place a link. Look in the Air Intake and Fuel Delivery.

You could put in a lower temperature thermostat as well, keep you running cooler. I have the Buick version of your car and a 180* drilled t-stat knocked down my average running temp by 2 marks on the gauge.
The HV3 works well too. It defiantly helps past 4000rpms. It did change the tone of the exhaust relatively significantly for me. I don;t know if that would be noticeable in your situation or not.
Also, is the circle track racing part of a circuit of just a local track? I thought doing something like that would be fun to try. There is one just south of here but I didn't know how these cars would do in that scenario. Good luck.
-Chris
EDIT: Do you have a link to the rules that we could look at? That might help at least in defining "bolt on performance parts"

Thats cool. The ZZP stage 1 throttle body is also nearly impossible to detect (with it installed of course) but it ports the inside from 65mm to 68mm and uses the stock sensors and wiring. They media blast it as well so it looks nice. It goes well with the HV3. Also, try to get as much weight out as possible. I saw that you pretty much have to strip the entire interior in it. Try dropping the A/C and all its components. Mine with me in it is 3600lbs. When I take out seats, carpet, spare tire (I know those things are gone per the rules..) I definitely feel lighter and am a little quicker at least. You could also get a race battery and just keep it in the stock location. I think that should net you about 35lbs and fall within the rules. Those rules are very specific lol. I guess they are trying to make the field as even as possible.
