I think stock lifters already have quite a bit of preload; some shorter pushrods would be a good idea with a .030" mill IMO.

.030" is definately pushing it on stock pushrods. You MIGHT be able to get away with it, but I wouldn't count on it. Now if you had an aftermarket cam or something it might be a different story, because most of those have a slightly smaller base circle than stock (for instance I've read that an XP cam has ~.030" smaller base circle than the stock cam, meaning .030" mill would put you right back to stock). I wouldn't try much more than .020" with stock pushrods.
