Unhappy Wont start, makes buzzing noise in dash

I drove my car to the post office turned her off and ran inside. When I came out the car would not start. When I turn the key there is no cranking or clicking noise from under the hood. You can hear the relays in the fuse box but that is all. All the lights, door locks, windows, etc work fine. When I turn the key I get a buzzing noise from within the dash, sound like it is just behind/under the instrument cluster. I checked all the fuses and battery connections and found nothing wrong. If anyone has any clue or idea what it might be I am at a complete loss. The voltage on the battery checks good as well. HELP.

Sounds like a loose ground to me. You don't identify what your car is, so it's kind of hard to get exact.

I will check the wiring for a loose ground but wouldn't that affect the rest of the electrics? This is why I don't like electrical problems. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Is it a buzzing or is it more like a low frequency humming.

The reason I'm asking is that electric motors tend to make a low humming sound when the contact brushes (magnets) have worn down to nothing.
If this is the case, I would suspect the starter.

I think the ticking is the fuel pump.

Plus you say the accessories work, so you apparently have more than enough battery reserve. This would rule out the alternator. I'm not an expert, but I think a bad ground would short out the system and you shouldn't have accessory power, right ?

It is more like a buzzing noise and it is inside the dash not under the hood. I checked the visible connections under the dash and they were fine. Also cleaned and reseated the battery cables and the grounding point on the frame (under the fuse box). My baby still won't start. Anymore ideas, or the actual solution, would be appreciated as the next step is ripping the entire dash apart to find the buzzing noise.

Latest update

I am looking for a transaxle range control switch to fix it now. Put on a new starter, starter 12v power cable has good voltage, good voltage at transaxle range control switch connector on the ignition feed wire. So, it should be the control switch according to the tech manual. Also, the buzzing noise was the alarm (aftermarket) relay. That has been bypassed until the fix is complete. I will post again when the new part is in.
