4.2 stroker daily driver?
So my worst dreams are now becoming a reality, after speaking to a few of our senior members they insured me that I AM a newbie, and have poped my first piston. Now this opens a whole new door for my options. My goal with this car seince I bought it has to have a mid to hi 12 sec. daily driver. Having said all that, I've been looking at all my options for pistons, rods. But correct me if im wrong, most of the members that replaced their pistons, deffinatly was not their lasttime doing so. when I tear apart my block I want it to be the last time. So would it be more logical to have my block bored over to the specs of the kit and replace every margerine of error with something forged and polished?
I think a L67 or L32 bottom end is more then enough for a 12sec car. Any car will chunk a piston if to much boost is put to it. Once you start adding up the cost to machine your block and buy new rods, pistons, bearings you'll understand how it's much more cost effective to just get a used short or long block.

you'll likely have better luck with a 100% stock shortblock. mid/high 12 second DD is easy to build safely. small cam, headers, intercooler, and a tune and you're there (seriously over simplified, supporting little mods obviously are assumed.)

Agreed. Stroking a 3800 to run 12's is like throwing a Whipple on to run 14's...

Mid twelve is low standards for my car,you can never have enough power. I had purchased it six months ago. what I really want is a street demon. Now im faced with a rebuild and was wondering how realistic is a stroker kit. you think id be selling my car short by getting it stroked, just to pack some more pistons in and start my build from that platform?
Personally I think the money spent on a stroker kit could be better spent else where for the sake of power. But if you're aiming to have a unquie setup go for it!

scan early and scan often and tune to perfection. do that and your pistons will be fine, if you can't tune away your kr then get a mod that will make your kr go away or go less boost

You ran a 3.1 with just a ported SC and a FWI? I have a hard time running a 3.1 with my mods without making it run rich to eliminate knock. You just need to read up on the mods actually needed to run smaller pulleys.
My mods: 3.1/3.2, SSIC, N*, 42.5, TOGS, 1.8rr's, Wizair, Ported SC, No Cat, PRJ FP & rewire, and a lot more little stuff.
Stock bottom end FTW.
