Transmission temperature

I have a question concerning the proper operating temperature of a bone stock transmission. I've recently had my transmission replaced with a remanufactured unit from the dealer (3 year, 100,000 mile warranty) and to be honest, I'm not satisfied with the shift quality and driveability. My previous transmission had a shift kit and it would constantly see temperatures of around 230F. My current transmission is no different: the other day I measured 242F on this thing! I keep going to the dealer about it; they said that it's normal for the transmission to be hotter than the engine.
I am also concerned about the shift quality. I had a 2006 Grand Prix (not the GTP) as a rental the other week and the shifts were very firm and the car never seemed to want for power-I could put the pedal down and the car would move at any speed-it didn't get confused from immediate start/stop situations either. The dealership is saying I may have an engine problem-my engine has about 66k miles on it and I maintain it religiously. What's the deal?

A good range for trans temp is 160*-180*. Mine takes about 45 minutes of driving hard to get over 180. Like DJZ1 said did you check your fluid?

Yes, the fluid level is normal. The dealer checked it several times; I did as well. I don't know why it would get so hot. Will having the transmission that hot have an effect on performance?

My trans gets insanely warm. I dunno what Celcius to Farenheit is, but I've seen 115*C. On the highway.

mine rarely gets over 180* and that with me beating on it. i know that is too high. the higher the temp the more wear on the tranny and that means not as long as lasting tranny i would see what a tranny cooler would do. but install it right and make sure you dont have any leaks.

I've been looking at some coolers lately-does anyone know about the ones they sell in Advance or O'Reilly's? Can you run those lines separate from the radiator or do they have to be in series? What particular model will get me in the 180 peak range? I know some cars come with a little cooler from the factory. My friend has an '02 Regal and it has one. I know for a fact that the Monte Carlos don't have a cooler-at least mine doesn't.
