Wiring Diagram Help (O2 Sensors)

I've put an '04 3800 into an '00 Impala. I had to use the '00 Impala wiring harness due to damage to the one from the '04.

Thanks to Dyno Brian, I now have a PCM with '04 programming, and transmission is now shifting fine, and I am down to my last 2 problems.

It appears that the wiring to the O2 sensors is also different between the '00 and the '04.

Can anyone post the O2 sensor pinouts for '04 and '00?

I have found that the '04 uses a low control wired to PCM connector C2, pin 37 for sensor 1 and pin 48 for sensor 2. These connections were not used on the '00 PCM. It appears they just used a reference ground in '00.

I need to know if there is anything else I need to change, or if I can just wire these 2 pins up. I have these wires out of the '04 harness, so I can easily wire them. I just don't know if that will be enough to get it working.

As is, I'm getting P0134, P0135, and P0036 codes.

Some quick random thoughts for I am still tuning on another car on dyno.

I ran into a similar issue with two different LS swapped vehicles.

Cliffs::

PCM's being used were 02 F Bodies. One vehicle used a wiring harness from tech rod's (sp?) and the other was a donor harness out of a LS truck. The problem was both 02 sensors on both vehicles would read 450 mv's (This is what they normally read when you have an open circuit) when you had iginition power going to the 02 sensors. The minute you cut power to the 02 sensors (pull a fuse dedicated to power them) they would behave normal in the scanner. Add the power back and they would read 450 mv's. Turned out both vehicles were using sensors off an 04 and newer vehicle. Something to do with how they ground. Switching back to the older style sensors fixed the problem. My guess is you need 04 sensors and the correct wiring for these sensors.

Hope this helps out some. I wish I could get a scan of your car to see just what the 02 sensors are doing.

Sensors

Sensor 1, upstream, is sitting at 450mv, doesn't really move. Sensor 2 is at over 900mv at idle, drops to as low as 100mv at speed.

Pin 37 and 48 provide ground for the heater circuit, I've got that figured out.

There is a pin 29 that for '00 was circuit 23, Terminal F. This was a gray wire, possibly 5v reference not sure if that is O2 related, but it is not used with the '04 PCM

Here's what I can tell from the PCM pinouts I have:

Sensor 1
O2 Sensor high = C2, pin 10 - no change from '00 to '04
O2 Sensor low = C1, pin 29 - '04 calls it low reference, but same pin
O2 heater high = not sure where connected, maybe engine voltage
O2 heater low = C2, Pin 37 - this is for '04, not sure how this connected on '00, I've made this wiring change

Sensor 2
O2 Sensor high = C2, pin 11 - no change from '00 to '04
O2 Sensor Low = C1, pin 28 - '04 calls it low reference, but same pin
O2 heater high = not sure where connected, maybe engine voltage. In the harness branched from same orange wire on '04 as sensor 1.
O2 heater low = C2, Pin 48 - this is for '04, not sure how this connected on '00, I've made this wiring change

I can try just the pin 37 and pin 48 changes, but I'd like to know for sure...

'04 diagram

Just found the '04 diagram on another thread. I'm off to the garage to give it a try.

Not quite there. Looks like the '04 wants the grounds tied together and to pin 12 of PCM C1. a little more work to do...Still 450-455mv, but the heater circuit seems to work now.

Success

That worked.

So in summary:

'04 3.8L engine and transmission from Impala LS put into '00 Impala LS

Used the engine wiring harness from '00. Changes required to wiring harness:

Black wire from upstream O2 sensor replaced with connection to PCM Connector 2, Pin 37 (no wire in '00 harness for that location, you will need a donor harness or other source for connector to insert into clear connector)

Black wire from downstream O2 sensor replaced with connection to PCM Connector 2, pin 48

PCM Connector 1 (bllue) pins 28, 29, and 12 tied together (these are reference grounds for O2 sensors, and other sensors)

(O2 sensor from '04 used for upstream, I have not completed connection to the downstream yet to confirm if the '00 will work or not.)

PCM from '04 with custom flash from Brian, with '00 VIN applied
