Had 169,000 miles on the engine and it was getting hard to start so I checked the fuel pressure and it was about 30 psi. I replaced the filter and installed a Walbro pump in the tank. Turned the key on and it wouldn't hold pressure for more than a second or two but with the engine running it was about 40 psi so I put a new pressure regulator in and the same thing happened. I was wondering if the problem was the Walbro pump not having a one way valve to stop the pressure from returning to the tank. Anyone else run into this problem? Now I just have to turn the key on wait a second for the pump to build pressure and it starts but if you just try and start it like most other people do it takes a few seconds of cranking to start.
So U feel if the hose on the pump doesn't seal good it could be leaking back through the corrugated hose on the pump into the tank? What did you do use a small hose clamp or just replace the hose?
To be honest... After several failed attempts at getting one of the replacement corrugated hoses to fit without damaging it.... I finally gave up and bought a Racetronix pump kit which comes with a hose that fits much better. The replacement hoses that are sold with the Walbro and individually are just to difficult to get over the barbs on the canister.
Not the cheapest solution but it was worth the piece of mind and it fixed my problem 1st time around.
One last thing... What type and year is your car. If your stock pump had a small black tube coming off the top (venturi style canister) you may be better off with the Racetronix anyways. That was my other issue with the Walbro, I was having fuel pressure flucuations starting at a little under 1/2 tank.
