Exclamation Head + Cam Thoughts For MP112 Powered Street Car!

I'm goin to start this by telling you my goals for this car. I am building it up for a well rounded street car with that WOW! Factor.

I have already adapted the brakes from the 06 GP GXP which gives me 12.7" front and 12" rear rotors with dual piston aluminum calipers. I run 18x9s with BFG G-Force T/A KDW2s all year because of the brakes, slicks are not an option for me.

As far as the suspension goes, it is heavy and almost completely built. I'm running SLP/Eibach springs and soon will have the adjustible KYB AGXs. Front/Rear Speedbuilt swaybars, strut tower bars, and diagnial braces...done. I just picked up UMI trailing arms and soon to have BMR laterial arms. I like to drive it like I stole it and I want to auto-x REAL bad!

Now for the goods. I just installed the WOW! Factor!! Atop my engine sits a intercooled MP112! It's mated with a LS1 TB and LQ4 MAF. It has an ATI Balancer and full 8 rib pulley setup. Because of not having heads or cam I had a custom 3.75" pulley made for the blower which is huge for a MP112. The intercooler utilizes the GM pump and INTENSE aluminum radiator.

Trans is next on the list cause' mine is totally stock and has 140K+ miles on it. It will be a full setup, minus a LSD, with a 3000 stall and 3.29s.

Heads and cam....I'm in need of help here. What I WANT to do is run a S1X cam and IS3 heads. I have a brand new Rollmaster Singletiming chain and dampener already. Will I benefit from a double Rollmaster at all? What springs should I have on the heads? I know they come with 130lb but its only going to be a S1X with 1.7 Yella Terra RRs. I would think 105s would be perfect but I don't really know. Won't I have to run a double roller with the 130s? Shold I just ditch the 1.7s?

What I'm tryng to avoid is going with a huge cam. I have a IS3 cam already but i think its going to be too aggressive for what I want to do.

Sorry its soo long but your input is appreciated. BTW there is only a 5HP difference between the IS3 cam and the S1X cam in the top HP list.

Vinnie

Well IMO if you want to run a S1x then get the S2 heads, if you want to run the S1x with 1.7 get the S3 heads and run the Double row timing chain. I think 130# springs are a good choice for 1.7's with the S1x. If you already have the S3 cam why not just stay with that cam and get some S3 heads? Why do you think it will be too aggressive? I dont think I have seen anybody run a S1x with a MP112, thats a big blower, I would only think you would want a big cam with that setup to get the most out it...Granted on the top 5 hp list there is only a small difference between all the cams, but there is so many factors to be considered other then just the top hp chart.....HTH

If it were me and I already owned the S3 cam, i would use it with some S3 heads and a double chain. You could even use the 1.7 rockers on that cam and still be fine.

Tim,
I am just scared of a big cam for some reason. I don't really know why...it's just a problem I have.

I'm goint to start trusting the older/wiser ones on here.

Lets talk about using the S3 cam AND the 1.7RRs. What would I need?

Things I already have:
S3 Cam
1.7RRs
CC Lifters
ARP head studs
3 layer Cometics - I think I need to chaulk these up as a loss since they have been proven faulty
Single Roller Rollmaster - I wonter if Todd would let me trade it in since it's still in the plastic never opened.

Vinnie

I'm sure if it hasn't been opened we could exchange it. You will need S3 heads and a double roller chain and your gaskets. That should take care of it. besides letting us tune it.

Well.....

I DO have a set of S3 heads here but they were Greenie's w/ about 1500 miles on them and are INTENSE's first run. You know the whole VSR issue. I called Fox Lake about them and they told me that not all of the heads have that issue because GM didn't have close tolerances on how they hardened valve seats so some were hardened thicker that others. The only way to know is to have them taken apart and inspected. They wanted me to take them to INTENSE to be sent up with a batch for them to make so they sould look at them.

Should I even humor this idea or should I just get rid of them to someone who doen't care about running lead and get a new set?

The mp112 is a big blower and to move all that air you will need a big cam and a good heads package. The IS3 heads, IS3 cam and 1.7 rockers would be a perfect match for the mp112. As metioned above the IS3 package is very streetable with a good tune. The S4 stuff is a little rough IMO for the street.

The 1x cam, IS3 heads and 1.8 rockers have abeen a great setup for me and that is something to think about as well but I don't have an mp112
