Does anyone know about a raw crank forging: 25500008? It either isn't a GM part number, or it has been discontinued. If you have knowledge of this, can it be ground for a 3800? If so, where could I find one?

Check with the Buick GN guys. Perhaps they can lead you to someone. Let me know if you do please. Email me back. Gotta go, customer...

I'm coming up empty on that forging. Everything I can find on it is years old. I guess I will have to go with a prepared stock crank.

I'm not sure what the technology is like nowadays. I remember Lunati (?) had a chromashaft (?) service many years ago. I haven't found any real hits on that either, however.

Does anyone know of a state-of-the-art hot rod machine shop that can do similar work?

Eagle does make a buick 3.8 shaft which can be respec'd to our crankshafts needs. It will cost you more but they will do it. However, our crank is pretty damn solid.

Q: "Do you have a forged crankshaft available for a GM 3800 engine?"

A: "Sorry. We do not. Thanks for your inquiry."

Unlike Crower, they didn't sound very interested in doing business with me. I have sent a new inquiry to them. I'll see what they say this time.

If I was planning on building a milder engine, or one with an automatic transmission, I would have no hesitation in using a prepared stock crank on the bottom end. As it stands, I may have to. I understand connecting rods are the weak point. How well do the factory forged Series III rods hold up in comparison to the Series II rods?
